AGC of Kentucky 2007 Annual Meeting

AGC Contact: Richard Vincent, November 27, 2007

A near capacity crowd attended our annual gathering this year at the Galt House in Louisville to celebrate the many accomplishments of the association. The day’s festivities began with a “Day at the Races” at the worlds most famous horse track - the legendary home of the Kentucky Derby - Churchill Downs. Nearly 70 AGC of Kentucky members and guests were in attendance along Millionaire’s Row for the luncheon and days races.

The evening’s 2007 Annual meeting and award ceremony provided us an opportunity to honor both individuals and companies who have helped the association make 2007 a great success. Richard Vincent the Executive Vice President of AGC of Kentucky served as emcee for the event.

The evening began with the announcement of AGC of Kentucky’s Committee of the Year, The AGC Safety Committee.

The 2007 Distinguished Service Award followed with recipients including Fred Orthmeyer (Wells Fargo Insurance), Jim Abbott (Commissioner of the Department for Facilities and Support Services), John Dowdell (R.R. Dawson Bridge Co.), David Jackson (Hacker Brothers, Inc.), Bob Williams (Messer Construction), Thomas Gumm (Alliance Corporation), Stephen Branscum (Branscum Construction), Anne Gorham (Stites & Harbison), Robb Mudd (Denham-Blythe Company), Christine Parsons (Parsons Electric), Sam Howard (Trace Creek Construction), and Judy Taylor (Keeneland). The Distinguished Service Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the association, the Commonwealth, and the Kentucky construction industry.

In addition to the DSA awards, Kentucky Representative Brent Yonts (D-Greenville) was presented with the Legislative Award of Merit and Buck Hinkle (Stites & Harbison) was honored with the Legislative Advocate of the Year.

Kathy Coffey (Grayhawk LLC) was presented with the inaugural AGC of Kentucky S.I.R. Award. The highest honor the association can bestow upon an individual, the S.I.R award takes its name from the AGC credo of “Skill, Integrity, and Responsibility”. Kathy was presented with the award, a golden statuette modeled from American Artist Norman Rockwell’s painting titled, “The Spirit of Construction” for her extraordinary dedication to the betterment and protection of the Kentucky construction industry and its members.

A demonstration of their true dedication to safety, a number of member companies were also recognized for their participation in the KY OSH/AGC CHASE Partnership Program including RED level firms Cooper Painting, Grayhawk LLC, Green Mechanical, H&R Mechanical, Henkel-Denmark, Isaacs Specialty Roof Systems, Kenney Inc., LAGCO Inc., Messer Construction Co., and GEM Engineering. Alliance Corporation was recognized as the only member firm reaching the prestigious WHITE certification level and W. Rogers Company of Lexington was honored with a standing ovation and a special presentation by Bill Carrey, KY OSH, as Kentucky’s first and only general contractor to reach BLUE level certification since the programs inception in 2003. Each of the aforementioned companies should be commended for their constant dedication to providing a safe working environment for their workforce.

AGC of Kentucky would like to thank all those who attended our 2007 annual meeting and we look forward to a successful 2008.
