Local State Senators and Representatives Will Be Attending

Thursday, October 9, 2008 (7:00am - 8:30am EDT)
Hosted by: Thermal Equipment Company, 680 Bizzell Drive, Lexington, KY

Kentucky small business worked together to force changes to the tax codes passed in 2005. AGC of KY and the Small Business Caucus invite you to a critical meeting that every small-business owner must attend. Presenters will give you the facts you need to make informed decisions and fight for relief on the top three cost drivers facing every Kentucky small-business owner.

STATE TAXES: The 2008 Regular and Special Sessions revealed the intent to raise taxes in Kentucky. Find out the areas of concern and how you can make sure small businesses are treated fairly. In addition, Kentucky continues to give tax incentives to big business, with nothing for the small business owners who employ 51% of all Kentuckians. Learn how you can help make these a reality.

LOCAL TAXES: The current system of reporting and paying local occupational taxes is a nightmare for people that do business in more than one local jurisdiction. In addition, Kentucky cities are seeking a Constitutional change to expand the list of taxes that local officials can levy, including a local sales tax. Help educate yourself about what’s on the horizon regarding local taxes.

WORKERS’ COMP: The court system has eroded the hard-won workers’ comp reforms of 1996. Employers are citing workers’ comp costs as a significant barrier to doing business and the silent killer of jobs in Kentucky. A critical issue is employee vs. subcontractor and the benefits provided. Find out what your exposure is and how you can protect yourself.

HEALTH INSURANCE: Learn about the bills that are coming in 2009 that will negatively impact small business community’s ability to afford health insurance premiums.

Additional dates for the Small Business Caucus Tour include Sept. 25th (Bowling Green), October 22nd (Ft. Wright), & October 23rd (Louisville). Events are also being planned for Murray, Prestonsburg & Hopkinsville, KY.
